Assessing Writing Beliefs and Behavior
Much like an iceberg, when it comes to writing, a lot happens below the surface that can affect what happens above the surface. A writer’s successes and failures in writing greatly influence his or her beliefs and behaviors. It is important to take stock of those beliefs and behaviors before a new chapter in writing begins. The bottom line is that you have what it takes to be a good writer. Your ability to write well depends on the effort and time you put into this class and the writing process starting today.
What's In It For You?
- You will be able to evaluate prior writing process practices for efficiency and effectiveness and develop a writing process that will assist you with university-level writing.
- You will be able to critique writing approaches based on the type and purpose of the audience.
- You will be able to develop your own “academic voice.”
- You will be able to improve your concept of thesis and topic sentences and discuss the importance of these two elements in your own writing.
- You will be able to evaluate a writing prompt for the writing situation and response expectations.
